「1111 project」—— 許旆誠 |我靜靜的綻放
1111 project: Silently, I Bloom by HSU Pei-Cheng
The role of a father and the once-lonely boy—
the sound of protection and the murmur of the self
arise from the same tender breath.
And fragments of time,
in the repetition of everyday routines,
bloom in silence.
Silently, I Bloom emerged after watching the film Aftersun.
The work gradually took shape as the artist kept recalling the film’s shattered imagery.
HSU Pei-Cheng notes,
“If I were not a father now, my experience of Aftersun—both during and after watching—might have been one of detachment, or even omission. Perhaps the tendrils of one’s life are always reaching toward every sincere moment of redemption.”
Director Charlotte Wells of Aftersun once said: (Translated by ChatGPT)
“Memory is a sly thing—its details are hazy and changeable. The harder you try to recall, the less you see the whole picture. Memory constantly erodes itself. I used to think feelings were more reliable than memory, but perhaps that’s not true either. When you remember a moment and how you felt, that memory is already being reshaped by a new emotion—what that past time now means to you. In Turkish, there is a word, hasret, which holds within it longing, love, and loss. It feels apt for what I’m describing—and for the film.”
HSU’s painterly scenes evoke a gaze as if seen under the blazing sun—
where brightness and depth coexist,
where opulence meets decay.
Amid the interlacing of consciousness,
the obscured parts remain unspoken—
they simply bloom.
One room, one work, one encounter.
In quiet radiance, HSU Pei-Cheng’s new creation unfolds.
